A French 18th century hand forged adjustable candlestick,  the helical twisted iron shaft has a central iron insert that passes through the shaft that can be used to adjust the height of the candle stick that it supports.  As the candle burns it can be raised by twisting.  With a hanging spike and turned wooden base.
